Exterior & Colors

The 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-e contains dimensions of 186″ L x 74" W x 63″ H. This EV can be equipped with 18" to 20" wheels. In comparison, the 2023 Tesla Model Y sits at 187″ L x 76″ W x 64″ H, with your choice of 19" or 21" wheels. However, the new Model Y only offers five different color choices, while the Mach-e can be outfitted with one of seven, such as the eye-catching Rapid Red Metallic or Shadow Black. 

Interior Design & Seating

The 2023 Mustang Mach-e and the Model Y feature two rows, allowing space to hold five people. However, some Model Y configurations have a two-seat, third-row option, increasing capacity to seven. Still, these seats are incredibly cramped, and anyone tall will end up touching against the glass on the hatch.

Drivetrain & Suspension

The 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-e allows you to choose rear- or all-wheel drive. With the 2023 Tesla Model Y, you don't have a choice; you must drive an all-wheel drive EV.

Battery & Range

There are two different battery options with the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-e. You can choose the 70-kWh or 91-kWh battery pack. Horsepower between these two ranges from 266 to 480, and the driving range is between 224 and 312 miles. On the other hand, the 2023 Tesla Model Y Long Range is rated for up to 330 miles of driving on a charge. The Performance model has a range of 303 miles, and the base model only gets 279 miles. 

Infotainment

The 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-e comes standard with the next-generation SYNC system, a 15.5" vertically-mounted touch screen, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Bang & Olufsen premium audio system, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. In comparison, the 2023 Tesla Model Y includes a 15" touchscreen, four USB ports, HD Radio, a navigation system, wireless device charging, a 14-speaker sound system, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and Bluetooth.

Safety Features

The 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-e has automated emergency braking, forward-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, hands-free driving mode, and blind-spot monitoring. The 2023 Mach-e GT model hits 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. Even more impressive, the GT Performance Edition sprints to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. In comparison, the 2023 Tesla Model Y takes between 3.5 and 5 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph, depending on which model you choose.

The IIHS says the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-e is a Top Safety Pick. On top of that, Car and Driver says, "The Mustang Mach-e excels at being an electric SUV." What's most alarming about the 2023 Tesla Model Y is the information listed with the NHTSA. It shows seven recalls, four investigations, and more than three hundred driver complaints. Additionally, Car and Driver states, "Simply put, there are better choices among EV SUVs than the Model Y."
